Former gatehouse to the Ferry Captain of Oxney
Property Description
Ferry Cottage was the gatehouse and home to the Ferry Captain for the passenger, livestock and vehicle ferry that ran from the Isle of Oxney to the UK mainland at Appledore. This period cottage is in the heart of the countryside, enjoys spectacular views and late sunsets. It has a walled garden that backs onto the 'Reading Street Dyke' - a small river where you can relax and fish. The Ferry Inn, a traditional country pub which adjoins the cottage was built in 1690 and The Saxon Shore Way, a 163 mile footpath along the old Roman coastline, runs directly past making both the pub and the cottage a popular choice for walkers and cyclists. The picturesque village of Appledore is only twenty five minutes walk or a five minute drive away. The Ancient Cinque port of Rye is six miles away and Tenterden seven miles.
